This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you use our website at simplemonth.com and our application at app.97questions.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and your choices. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. We may update this policy from time to time; we will post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date.

1. Information We Collect

Account and profile information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you provide them, a display name and profile photo (avatar). We may also store your preferred language, theme and display preferences (e.g., dark mode, animations), and notification settings (email and push). We use this information to provide and personalize the Service and to communicate with you.

Content you create

When you use the Service as a couple, we store the answers you submit to questions and any messages you send in the in-app discussion threads. This content is associated with your account and your couple and is used to operate the Service (e.g., so you and your partner can view each other's answers when you choose to reveal them).

Payment and subscription information

If you subscribe to the Service, payment is processed by third-party payment providers (e.g., Stripe, Apple App Store, Google Play). We do not store your full credit card number. We may receive and store identifiers such as a subscription status, billing period, and provider-specific IDs so we can manage access and support (e.g., restore purchases).

Usage and technical information

We and our service providers may collect information about how you use the Service (e.g., pages visited, actions taken) and technical data such as IP address, device type, and browser type. We use this to operate, secure, and improve the Service and to detect abuse. We may use cookies or similar technologies as described in this policy or in a separate cookie notice.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to: provide, maintain, and improve the Service; authenticate you and manage your account; process subscriptions and payments; show you and your partner the relevant questions and answers in accordance with the Service's design; send you transactional and product-related emails (e.g., signup confirmation, partner-invite notifications, support replies) and, if you have opted in, notifications when your partner answers or replies; respond to support requests and legal process; enforce our Terms of Service; and protect the security and safety of the Service and our users. We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

3. Sharing of Information

With your partner. The Service is designed for use by two people in a couple. Your answers and discussion messages are shared with your linked partner within the Service when you each choose to reveal or discuss them, as described in the product.

Service providers. We use third-party providers to operate the Service, including for hosting and databases (e.g., Supabase), authentication, payment processing (e.g., Stripe, Apple, Google), and email delivery (e.g., Resend). These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually required to protect your information and use it only to provide services to us.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud or abuse.

4. Legal Basis (EEA / UK and similar regions)

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another region that requires a legal basis for processing: we process your data where necessary to perform our contract with you (e.g., to provide the Service and subscription), where necessary for our legitimate interests (e.g., security, analytics, improving the Service) in a way that does not override your rights, where you have given consent (e.g., optional notifications), and where required by law. You may withdraw consent at any time for consent-based processing without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and profile information, answers, and messages for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data in accordance with our internal retention schedule and applicable law, except where we must retain data for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Backups may retain data for a limited period before deletion.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest where applicable, access controls, and secure authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: Access the personal information we hold about you; Correct inaccurate data (you can update your profile in the app); Delete your data or request account deletion via our Delete Account page; Portability (receive a copy of your data in a structured format); Object to or restrict certain processing; and Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can control notification preferences (e.g., email when your partner answers) in the app under Settings. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails via the link in those emails, where applicable; transactional emails (e.g., password reset, support) may still be sent as necessary for the Service.

8. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. If you are located outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions that may not provide the same level of data protection as your country. We take steps to ensure that such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms recognized by applicable law).

9. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us at info@97questions.com and we will delete it promptly.

10. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., payment providers, app stores). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing them with any information.

For material changes, we may also notify you by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
